Tin Shed Brunch

Breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day. It's actually kind of ridiculous how much I love breakfast food- I mean think about it: you can literally eat anything for breakfast! And there's nothing better than rolling out of bed, pouring yourself a steaming cup of tea and shoveling eggs and bacon into your salivating mouth....

Sorry, got a bit carried away. 

But you get the general idea, right?

Sunday brunch is a glorious way to start the last day of the weekend. 

I heard a lot about Tin Shed by word of mouth and it sounded perfect for a sunny lazy Sunday. So off we went to Alberta Street in Northeast Portland for a casual brunch.

The line was long- which I took as a good sign. While we waited for a table we poured ourself coffee and tea and stood in the shade of the building and did some genuinely good people watching. 

When our name was called we were directed to the bar and sat excitedly on our bar stools. We watched as the bartenders rolled out Bloody Mary after Bloody Mary and the occasional latte with perfectly formed foam leaf. 

Then or food came: um, yum. 

We ate in silence absolutely savoring our food-- me of course taking fork-fulls of B's scramble when I thought he wasn't looking. 

I'm on the hunt for the perfect eggs benedict, and this "Benni Hill" was delicious!

Like many Portland restaurants & small businesses, Tin Shed pride themselves on sustainability and the process from which their food gets put on their plates. If you want good food, and don't mind a bit of a wait, I'd suggest you get your toosh to the Shed.

Fall for Hoodies

Today was a perfectly sunny and cool day on the Eastside.
As I drove down the street I saw some of my neighbors had their Halloween decorations up and pumpkins sitting leisurely on their porch steps. It's official: autumn is here!

 And you know what that means?
Sweaters. Flannel. and Hoodies.

Before college I never wore sweatshirts. But something about that preppy collegiate sweatshirt really called to me. Now I've expanded my horizons and have acquired the most delicious and comfortable sweatshirt of all time.

If you're a frequent follower you'll remember I did a spotlight on my friends at DKC a little bit ago. Well mon ami, they're at it again & this time they've blown me away!

No, seriously.
This sweatshirt, designed by my good friends at Dream Kings Co., is so soft and cozy that once I unwrapped it and slipped into it, I refused to take if off!

You can get yours here -- and you probably should because you'll regret it in a few weeks when temps drop even more. 

Soon I'll be sipping apple cider or chowing down on some home made apple crisp. In the meantime, I'll be lounging in this cozy and gorgeously savvy Dream Kings sweatshirt. You know what I say: I only wear whats good, and thats why I swear the Octopus.

Wine Wednesday

Hump day: the middle of the week where the weekend is sort of  looking closer but it's still beyond your mental grasp.

While most people go home and pour themselves a big glass of wine-- I say, why not enjoy it with a your girlfriends? 

We met up just in time for Happy Hour at Lot No. 3

The relatively new restaurant & bar on the Eastside has a rustic, warehouse quality to it combined with big sofa's and intimate lighting. The atmosphere is cool yet it was so easy to relax once we sat down, and we spent hours drinking, eating and catching up on our latest gossip.

Lot 3 is quite acclaimed on the Eastside for their amazing take on comfort food and their incredible cocktail menu. The bartenders here are truly magicians (or chemists, whichever you prefer) and the food.... indescribably simple and delicious.

I had wine (always) and Linz had the Adult Punch. It was as delicious as it looked and came in a hipster- friendly mason jar!

On the weekends this place gets pretty crowded. If you want dinner (highly highly recommended) I'd call for reservations. Their staff is very nice & very helpful.

p.s. their bathroom's are the most rustic and coolest bathroom's I've ever been in.

Monaco

The last stop on our holiday was a day trip to the one and only country of Monaco.

Since we didn't have a rental car, we decided to hire a driver who doubled as our guide. Andreas, our lovely chauffeur for the day, drove us to our first stop. Chateau Eze: a gorgeous medieval town that sits atop a hill. 

We stopped at the legendary perfumery, Fragonard, and walked away with fabulous French perfumes.

After that we continued east to the most fabulous (and smallest) country I have ever been to: Monaco!

We spend the rest of the day lounging on the hot stones on the beach and soaking up the last of our Mediterranean sunshine. All in all it was an amazing trip with great food & great weather. Going home was a bit stressful-- it took us 3 flights with 3-4 hour layovers each stop until we finally landed at Seatac International. Jet lag was miserable, but it was definitely worth it!
